Week 8 in Review: Design for Community Building and Performance Support

*TW: mentions of the COVID-19 pandemic*
This week we completed our knowledge sharing and tracking assignments and turned them in. I am pleased with how mine turned out, although I think I need to make some minor modifications to it once I have completed this blog post and my participation log for the week. After looking up some more information on Pinterest's copyright policies, I think I might have said some misinformation in my comments on VoiceThread. Things never slow down in summer classes, do they?

I had fun playing around with Trello and Slack this week. As the vice president of ISSA (Instructional Systems Student Association), I participate in Slack with my fellow officers in order to communicate about club events. Its interface can take some time getting used to it and for some reason, it will randomly not send me notifications about new conversations within channels that I follow (does anyone else's Slack app do this to them?) However, I have found that it is still useful in organizing for a large group. I had never used Trello before but I liked what I saw and I could definitely see future uses for it, particularly with the group that I volunteer with.

I know that the next project coming up for us is the Produsage assignment, which I am intrigued about. I was supposed to go to Alaska at the end of this week, but I am no longer doing so. I was supposed to travel there with my three best friends from undergrad and we are now planning to have the trip in mid-August but I'm almost positive it's not going to happen because COVID-19 cases are rising, particularly here in Florida. I would not be surprised if Alaska announces this upcoming week that it is going to require two-week quarantines from those who travel there from Florida. Anyway, I had initially requested time off of work for next week and received it; I have not let my manager know that I no longer need all that time off yet, so I am toying with the idea of still taking about two days off next week to get caught up on reading for class and working on the Produsage project. That sounds really nice right about now, considering how absolutely out of control this summer has been news-wise.

How are you doing with class? Are you starting to get a bit overwhelmed, or do you feel like you have everything under control?
